welcome to the
PanSY clUb
Pansies are one of my favorite bedding plants. They’re hardy, blooming through the hard freezes of spring and frosts of fall. I start a variety of colors of pansies in the summer and sell seedlings in the fall for you to add to your gardens. These certified organic seedlings will bloom throughout the fall, overwinter, and then bloom vigorously the following spring.
All About Pansies
Pansies are a biennial, meaning they spend the first year of their life growing, and the second year flowering (as opposed to an annual, which grows, flowers, and dies in one year, or a perennial, which grows and flowers over many years). Most pansies sold in the spring in Vermont are started further south in January, and shipped up to Vermont to be planted and bloom in the spring. Pansies planted in the fall will be healthier plants with more blooms after overwintering in the garden. I seed plants in mid July, to bloom next spring (although you will also have several frost tolerant blooms this fall).

How do I plant my pansies in a garden bed?
Plant pansies in a partial to full sun. They are adaptable to most garden soils. Before planting, remove pansies from their peat pot (this pot is biodegradable, and can be crumbled up on top of the soil afterwards). Make sure the top of the plug is covered with soil, and water if dry. Mulch lightly before snow. Pansies will have some colorful blooms this fall, even into November. In spring, uncover and enjoy!
How do I plant my pansies if I want to put them in pots next spring?
Plant pansies in a tilled garden bed and mulch lightly. As soon as soil can be worked in early spring, dig around the root ball and plant in a pot with potting soil. Enjoy!
